The Toyota Camry Hybrid is a sports-edition (SE) trim vehicle designed to offer optimal fuel economy, advanced technology, exceptional safety, and great comfort. The Camry Hybrid remains a unique and popular sedan if you are looking for reliability and comfort in a mid-sized car. The latest Toyota Camry Hybrid borrows heavily from previous versions.

Engine Performance

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is powered by a 2.5 liter, 4-cylinder, dual overhead camshaft engine with 16 valves that support 4S dual injection. The dual VVT-i engine is capable of pumping out 203 horsepower with over 6,600 revolutions per minute. The fuel-efficient engine can do up to 28 miles per gallon in city environments and 39 miles per gallon on highway conditions. With an eight-speed automatic transmission, the unit can do 0 to 60 mph within 7.5 seconds.

Interior Comfort

The Toyota Camry Hybrid's interior is fine-tuned for great comfort. This mid-size sedan is a five-seater unit, with the seats made of cloth fabric for breathability. At highway speeds, the suspension system is supported by independent Macpherson struts, which are linked by a stabilizer bar at the front and a multi-link rear suspension system. This enables the car to comfortably handle light bumps without necessarily transferring shocks to the cabin. When under electric power, the vehicle offers a vibration-free, calm, and quiet driving experience, even under full throttle. The interior's climate control system allows good venting and provides triple-digit temperature control for an exceptionally comfortable ride.

Driving Technology

The Camry Hybrid offers an impressive balance of various technologies that are designed for comfort and convenience. Much of the technology is designed to ensure standard driver assistance. Notable driving aids include the automatic emergency braking system and the lane assist technology. These utilize intelligent clearance sonar that allows assisted braking accompanied by engine power reduction. The voice control capability allows the driver and passengers to issue vocal commands to control various functions hands-free.

Limited Drivetrain

If you are looking forward to acquiring a newer model Toyota Camry Hybrid, then the chances are that you may have to go for automatic. Earlier model years had the option of a 5-speed manual transmission.

Safety Technology

The Camry Hybrid has a great record of safety technology. However, much of the safety tech, especially the lane departure warning system, can be a bit too sensitive and intrusive. The forward collision prevention system, in particular, can initiate instantaneous, sharp braking. In addition, the lane-departure warning system cannot be deactivated on the Camry. Whereas this is a good thing for your safety, you might find it a bit of a nuisance.

Transmission

The eight-speed automatic transmission is sometimes clunky and sluggish in picking up changes in between gears, especially when accelerating. This is why the manual option, which is not available, would have offered a great alternative.

The dashboard clock has mysteriously reset (to 1:00) twice. I haven't figured out the pattern/cause yet, but it is very weird. I wish the clock was on the screen while I'm on the phone.

The front grille of the Camry used to look better. Now it reminds me of a snarling dog.

2015 Toyota Camry Hybrid (4-Cyl)

We bought the ''top of the line'' Toyota Camry Hybrid (XLE) and every time we drive it we marvel over the features that are NOT on it. We didn't want the sunroof so we had to install a new rear mirror for the ''home link'' system, had to add an aftermarket passenger lumbar, there are no puddle lamps, no footwell lighting, the front interior light is not controllable, no fog lights are even available, no memory for driver seat. We should have examined the vehicle further, it's our fault, but Toyota has lost a lifetime customer.

The gap between the hood and other places are way too large. The grille is the ugliest I ever seen on any car, awful!!! A lot of safety items were on my expensive car. No standard turn signals on the side view mirrors. No blind spot protection. No auto braking in case of being too close. The rear view camera doesn't track with the steering. The Radio and navigation system -- Stinks!!! In BUYING the car went through four or 5 cars to find front seats that were comfortable. The trunk has no touch open system- that really stinks! It's great!!
