smart Overview

Smart is a manufacturer of small city cars that was borne out of a partnership between Swatch, a Swiss watchmaker, and German automaker Mercedes-Benz. Their two-seat Fortwo model first went on sale in the U.S. for the 2008 model year, boasting a cute design, nimble handling, and excellent fuel economy. The “Smart car” (as it came to be known) was offered in a variety of configurations, including both coupe and convertible body styles with either gasoline or battery-electric powertrains. Due in part to slow sales, Smart exited the American market after the 2019 model year.
