Lexus LS

A longtime challenger to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Lexus LS stands as the flagship sedan of the luxury division of Toyota. Known for its serene cabin, plush interior appointments, and long list of standard features, the LS more than lives up to its luxury billing. On the downside, some owners complain about the model’s limited interior storage, lackluster fuel economy, and cumbersome and outdated tech, which prevents the LS from being truly considered a best-in-class option.

Lexus LS Model Lineup

The LS is a full-size luxury sedan with seating for four to five individuals, depending on model year and configuration. It is the largest sedan in the Lexus lineup, measuring roughly 10 inches longer than the midsize ES. The fourth-generation model, known as the LS 460, ran from 2007-2017 and came in either standard- or extended-wheelbase form (denoted with “L” badging), while the fifth-generation version, known as the LS 500 (2018-present), is offered in a single length that’s about the same as the outgoing LS 460 L.

Both LS generations provide lots of standard features, including leather upholstery, a sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. However, the LS 500 is a bit more generously equipped, offering heated and ventilated front seats, blind-spot warning, and adaptive cruise control as standard, while the same features are optional on the LS 460. Apple CarPlay also joined as standard equipment on the LS 500 for 2019, while Android Auto and forward collision mitigation accompanied it the following year. Such features are not available on the LS 460.

Under the hood, the LS 460 boasts a 4.6-liter V8 backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Its output varies depending on the drive type: with rear-wheel drive, it delivers 386 horsepower, while with all-wheel drive, output drops to 360 ponies. With the debut of the LS 500 for the 2018 model year, the LS got an all-new 416-hp 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Like the LS 460, the LS 500 is also available in either rear- or all-wheel drive, but output remains the same regardless of format. The LS 500 and the LS 460 each have hybrid variants, respectively dubbed the LS 500h and LS 600h, which are reviewed separately.

2014 Lexus LS 460 AWD

I wish my LS460 could have lighted door sills. Wish the GPS would be more user-friendly, I am unable to reset the GPS to the original factory settings.

I wish to add a feature to dynamic cruise control so that the car will not accelerate while turning. Also would like to have such safety features as stop on obstruction ahead, autopilot lane change, autopilot parking in parking lots.
