Under the hood, the Telluride features a 3.8-liter V6 making 291 horsepower. The engine routes its ample power through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Though not particularly sporty, the combo does deliver refined shifts and reasonable acceleration. The Telluride’s suspension is likewise tuned primarily for comfort rather than driver engagement. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is available for those who need additional traction.
On the inside, the Telluride stands out for its premium look and feel, which seems to have been inspired by posh high-end SUVs such as the Range Rover. It also boasts one of the roomiest cabins in its class, including a third row that even adults won’t mind riding in.
Despite its reasonable price, the Telluride doesn’t skimp on amenities, especially at higher trim levels, which are fitted with goodies such as dual sunroofs, heated and ventilated seats, and a heated steering wheel. The big Kia offers a strong set of tech and safety features, too, including standard adaptive cruise control on all trim levels (starting in 2022) and an available surround-view display.
Additionally, the Telluride comes with Kia’s class-leading factory warranty, which provides powertrain coverage for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
Kia Telluride Model Lineup
The Telluride is a midsize crossover SUV that seats seven or eight, depending on the configuration. The three-row family hauler is Kia’s largest SUV, measuring some eight inches longer than the next size down, the Sorento. It shares a platform and some mechanical features with the Hyundai Palisade, which is made by the Korean automaker's sister company.
Trims on the Telluride include the entry-level LX, the mid-level S, the well-equipped EX, and the range-topping SX. All versions come standard with a 3.8-liter V6 engine powering the front wheels. All-wheel drive is available; however, Kia does not yet offer a hybrid or electric version.
