Jeep Compass

In 2007, Jeep added the Compass to its growing roster of vehicles. The small crossover is aimed at buyers who want the rugged styling of the brand but without the typical trade-offs of a traditional off-roader, which can include a high price tag and stiff handling. Owners of the Compass give it high marks for its comfortable cabin and easy-to-use infotainment system. Some also single out the Trailhawk version for its trail-tackling features, such as skid plates and crawl mode, which are unusual in the segment. On the downside, some notable drawbacks include sluggish acceleration, lackluster fuel economy, and limited rear-seat space. Nevertheless, the Compass remains an attractive choice for those seeking a bit of adventure at an affordable price point.

Jeep Compass Model Lineup

The Compass is a compact crossover SUV that seats up to five passengers. In Jeep’s SUV lineup, it slots between the subcompact Renegade and the larger Cherokee, and it shares a platform and some components with the Fiat 500X, which is built by Jeep’s sister company within the Stellantis Group of automotive brands.

In recent years, Jeep has offered the Compass in a range of trims, including the entry-level Sport, the mid-level Latitude, the well-equipped Latitude Lux (added in 2022), the upscale Limited, and the off-road-focused Trailhawk, which boasts increased ground clearance, skid plates, tow hooks, and an advanced 4x4 system.

The second generation of the Compass made its debut in 2017, bringing significant improvements to its design, chassis and suspension, and technology features. Notable updates include a more modern look, an upgraded infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a suite of available driver assistance technologies such as lane-keeping assist and forward-collision mitigation. Adaptive cruise control was added as an option in 2019. In 2021, the second-gen Compass received a mid-cycle refresh that introduced some minor exterior styling tweaks along with a redesigned interior with more upscale materials and additional standard safety features, such as blind-spot monitoring.

The Compass has long employed a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with about 180 horsepower. In front-wheel drive examples, it typically pairs with a six-speed automatic, while all-wheel drive examples get a nine-speed unit. Notably, a six-speed manual transmission was also offered on the Sport and Latitude trims through the 2020 model year.

I love my Jeep Compass! Being a Jeep I expect go it to stand up to some serious weather conditions a leaking sunroof is unacceptable I've had to take my car in four times and it still leaks. I was told I had bluetooth I don't on this model. It's truly a beautiful vehicle I love driving it.

The only thing I do not like about the Jeep Compass is the design for handles for the back doors. They are very difficult to operate.

My purchase experience was amazing but I wish my car had power windows and locks. I also wished it had a different transmission.

I bought this Jeep because of the one we had before, it handles EXTREMELY well in all weather and road conditions. The ease of putting it into 4 wheel drive when needed is exceptional.
