Jaguar XF

The XF is Jaguar’s answer to midsize luxury stalwarts such as the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Compared to its German rivals, the XF stands out for its classy good looks and compelling balance of agility and comfort, which has long been a hallmark of the British automaker. The XF also tends to undercut its competitors on price. Owners appreciate the XF for its handsome styling, posh interior, and authoritative power, especially from the available supercharged V6 and V8 engines. On the downside, high running costs, a fussy infotainment interface, and a lack of interior storage are among its most significant lowlights.

Jaguar XF Model Lineup

The XF is a midsize luxury sedan with room for up to five people. As of 2022, it’s the only sedan in Jaguar’s lineup, which previously included the full-size XJ (1968-2019) and the compact XE (2017-2020). From 2018 through 2020, the XF was also available in a wagon body style, which Jaguar dubbed the Sportbrake.

As a luxury car, the XF boasts a long list of standard features, including power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a sunroof. Higher-level trims, such as the Prestige and the Portfolio, add a host of other niceties, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, and navigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration has been available since 2019 and became standard the following year. Parking sensors joined the standard features list in 2020. And in 2021, Jaguar also made forward collision mitigation, blind-spot warning, lane-keeping assist, and a surround-view camera standard equipment; they had previously been limited to the upper trim levels. Adaptive cruise control has long been available as an option.

Jaguar has fitted the XF with a variety of powertrains over the years. Since 2013, entry-level versions have primarily utilized a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which initially made 240 horsepower before a new 247-hp version (called “25t” or “P250”) debuted in 2018. A thrifty turbodiesel four-cylinder (called “20d”) joined the range in 2017, offering as much as 35 mpg (combined) before being discontinued in 2020. Mid-level XF examples benefit from a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 (called “35t”) that produces 340 hp or 380 hp in “S” trim; it was joined in 2019 by a 296-hp version of the turbocharged four-cylinder (called “30t” or “P300”). The sportiest XF offerings, including the high-performance XFR and XFR-S models, feature a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 making between 470 and 550 hp, depending on the year and configuration. However, in 2016, the V8 left the lineup, making the supercharged V6 the most powerful remaining mill until its 2021 departure. All versions since 2013 have employed an eight-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels, unless equipped with optional all-wheel drive. No electric or hybrid versions have been made available.

The only complaint is the lighting and visibility are poor at night. Also all vehicles should have lane departure and blind spot indicators. Would like lane departure system. Would like blind spot indicator. Would like larger fuel tank. Would like larger screen. My Cadillac had all except larger fuel tank.

I only had my car for over 3 months purchased on April 29th and I have very bad rock chips dents, dings and scratches already all on the front bumper and side panel of my car. This is very disturbing to know that the quality of the paint is very low. I do not drive fast or a lot. The paint quality is very sensitive and I'm afraid whin a few months the paint is gonna rub off. This is dissatisfactory.

I spent almost 2 years looking around and researching, but purchased spontaneously when I saw the car I fell in love with. I am definitely not your normal customer.

While I am completely satisfied with my car and my choice, there just seems to be a few small areas for improvement. The dashboard panel is thin cheap plastic. The indicator stalks on side of steering used to be metal and felt solid, on the old version/model, now they feel light plastic and perhaps cheap. Interior door panels, (wood effect) were not fitted properly and had come away from the door, (2 doors) and this should have been caught prior to the vehicle being delivered. Lastly for a 5.0L V8 supercharged engine the exhaust noise could perhaps be a little more distinctive. I would not rate my purchasing experience as exceptional. I would rate my satisfaction with the Jaguar Brand and my new XFR as exceptional.

The instruction manual indicates that headlights in Auto mode, should turn on high beams at night when needed. It does not seem to work as described. POI feature in Navigation system is confusing. I wanted directions to Redfish Lake, and it could not find it. I wish the capabilities of my Garmin were present. The lack of lumbar support on seats is unfortunate; I wish I had realized this before buying car. I did not notice that the front seats lack lumbar adjustment. This might have caused me to look for an XF model with that.

I would have liked a trunk that would open hands free when unlocked, heads up display.
