INFINITI QX60

The Infiniti QX60 is the upscale version of the Nissan Pathfinder, offering most of that model’s three-row family-hauling utility in a more striking and luxurious package. While Infiniti’s premium midsize crossover doesn’t quite live up to the lofty standards set by segment leaders such as the Volvo XC90 or the Audi Q7, it does deliver oodles of comfort and features at a price that undercuts many rivals.

Originally named the JX35, the midsize crossover from Nissan’s luxury division got a new moniker in 2014: the QX60. Since then, the model has received both a minor refresh for the 2016 model year and a complete overhaul for 2022.

One thing that hasn’t changed much over time is the QX60’s powertrain. Standard equipment is a 3.5-liter V6 driving either the front or all four wheels. Initially producing a peak of 265 horsepower, the engine’s output grew to 295 hp starting in 2017 thanks to an update to direct injection. Until 2022, that V6 was backed by a continuously variable transmission (CVT), after which it was swapped for a nine-speed automatic. Either version provides refined operation.

The QX60 delivers a smooth and quiet ride befitting a premium vehicle. In fact, owners of the SUV rank ride comfort as its top attribute, according to research by consumer experience specialist Strategic Vision. That’s thanks not only to its compliant suspension but also to a cabin that stands out for its upscale design and its roominess – especially in the first two rows. Third-row passengers may find legroom somewhat lacking.

Technology hasn’t always been the QX60’s strong suit. Prior to its 2022 overhaul, the model made do with a somewhat dated infotainment display that offers only basic levels of smartphone integration. But with the redesign, the QX60 gained a host of new tech features, including a large 12.3-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It’s a similar story on the active safety front. Most QX60 versions get a basic level of gear, and more advanced driver aids – including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot intervention – are largely optional. The exceptions are blind-spot warning and forward-collision mitigation, which both became standard for all trims in 2019.

INFINITI QX60 Model Lineup

The QX60 is a midsize three-row crossover SUV with room for six or seven, depending on the configuration. It’s the second-largest model in Infiniti’s SUV lineup, slotting between the full-size QX80 and the compact QX50. The QX60 shares a platform and many components with the Nissan Pathfinder, made by Infiniti’s parent company.

Infiniti offers the QX60 in a variety of trims, starting with the entry-level Pure and advancing to the increasingly well-equipped Luxe, Sensory, and Autograph levels. (Note that 2018 and earlier models were sold in a single trim.) Most versions utilize a six-cylinder gasoline engine driving the front wheels. All-wheel drive is optional, as was a hybrid variant from 2014 through 2017.

Wish the exterior was "boxier" like the land rover... but the inside and features and gas mileage are GREAT!

I was hoping that going from an older Toyota to an Infiniti would provide superior electronics, not so. The Navigation system is a step down and is cumbersome to use and hard to read. There is a screen in the driver's console which is really nice, but useless since it does not provide any helpful information. Competing crossovers offer so much more in the way of electronics. You also should not have to pay for a subscription to search for a location by name. This is VERY disappointing. It would also be nice to turn the center screen completely off, instead, you get a dark, but still like screen. The CVT? (Continuous Variable Transmission?) is a liability. If the wheels spin at all in gravel the AWD kicks in and also reduces the speed. Beware when entering high speed traffic, sometimes this car has good pickup, but if the AWD kicks in you will not have any pickup and you could be in danger. On a good note, this car is great for transporting a number of passengers comfortably, easy to get in and out of and looks pretty sharp from the front. I wish they put more thought into the taillight design. As a family vehicle, there should be USB ports in the 2nd and 3rd row as children are always looking to charge their phones. Having them reach into the driver's center armrest is distracting.

The center console has a knob to set the driving gear shift mode to: snow, eco, standard, or sport. The knob has written the labels as specified above. However, when you are driving you can't turn your face to center console to look at the labels. I suggest to manufacturer and designer to add raised marks on the knob so by just touching the knob I could say which side is eco and which side is sport so I could turn the knob to correct direction. Basically, I am suggesting a sort of Braille marks on the knob.

The only disappointment is the hesitation when slowing and not coming to a complete stop then pushing the gas there is a hesitation, the honda CRV I traded did the same thing and I hate it.
