INFINITI QX50

The QX50 offers much of the style and comfort found in similar compact luxury crossover SUVs. However, the small Infiniti lacks the overall refinement demonstrated by class-leading models from the likes of Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Yes, the QX50 looks and feels like a luxury vehicle, but its noisy powertrain, cumbersome displays and instrumentation, and lofty price tag earn it only lukewarm ratings from owners in recent years.

INFINITI QX50 Model Lineup

The QX50 is a compact luxury crossover SUV with room for five. It is the smallest sport-ute in the Infiniti lineup, measuring roughly 13 inches shorter than the midsize QX60. Formerly known as the Infiniti EX, the QX50 replaced its predecessor for the 2014 model year. The QX55, a sportier, coupe-like variant of the QX50, is reviewed separately.

Since 2019, Infiniti has offered the QX50 in five trim levels: the entry-level Pure, the safety-focused Luxe, the convenience-themed Essential, the premium-leaning Sensory, and the range-topping Autograph. The latter two were added to the lineup starting in 2020. Prior to 2019, the base and the tech-oriented Journey were the only two trims available. No matter the trim, the QX50 offers a variety of premium features. Forward collision mitigation became a standard active safety feature for 2019, and Infiniti added standard lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear parking sensors the following year, along with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Adaptive cruise control joined the standard-feature list for the 2022 model year (and was previously optional).

Two powertrains have driven the QX50 over the years. First-generation models (2014-2018) utilize a 3.7-liter V6 making 325 horsepower and mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. With the debut of the second-gen QX50 in 2019, Infiniti swapped the V6 for a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 268 hp. It’s paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Rear-wheel drive is standard on all first-gen QX50s, while second-gen models get standard front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive has long been available as an option on most versions. No hybrid or electric variants have been offered.

2014 Infiniti QX50 Journey RWD

5.0

We previously owned an Infinti EX35 - the QX50 is the same vehicle. We unfortunately traded our old Infiniti EX35 for the Lexus 200CT - which frankly is possibly the worst new car available today.
