INFINITI Q70

While it could never quite hold its own against class leaders such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Infiniti Q70 does stand out for its distinctive styling, roomy cabin, and robust engines, particularly the available 420-horsepower V8. Owners of the Q70 give it high marks for those qualities as well as for its plush seats, responsive handling, and available driver aids. On the downside, the biggest disappointments come from its lackluster fuel economy (for all but the hybrid version) and somewhat dated infotainment setup, which lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

INFINITI Q70 Model Lineup

The Q70 is a midsize luxury sedan that Infiniti sold from 2014 through 2019. With room for up to five passengers, it was the automaker’s largest sedan, measuring about seven inches longer than the compact Q50. A long-wheelbase variant called the Q70L joined the lineup in 2015, bumping rear-seat legroom up by almost six inches to a class-leading 41.8 inches.

Infiniti offered the Q70 in three main trims, which correspond to engine size as well as equipment levels. The base 3.7 kicks things off with a 3.7-liter V6 engine making 330 horsepower. That’s followed by the mid-level Q70 Hybrid, which offers a hybrid powertrain combining a 3.5-liter V6 with an electric motor for 360 total hp; it also boasts an EPA-rated 31 mpg in mixed driving. At the high end of the range is the upscale 5.6, which ups the ante with a 5.6-liter V8 making 420 hp. Note that in 2018 Infiniti added the word “Luxe” to all trim names though the powertrain details remained unchanged. All versions are paired with a seven-speed automatic and come standard with rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional on the 3.7 and 5.6 but not available on the Hybrid.

As a luxury vehicle, the Q70 comes with a generous set of standard features, including keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a sunroof. For 2018, Infiniti added even more premium goodies as standard, including parking sensors, leather upholstery, and an 8.0-inch infotainment display with navigation (all of which had previously been optional). An available Sport package offers a sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and unique wheels. Other notable options include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and forward collision mitigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were never offered.

I miss some of the tech features I had on my 2006 M35x like lane sensing and sensing the distance to car in front.
