Hyundai Tucson

The Tucson is a compact SUV that seats up to five passengers. It fits into Hyundai's sport-ute lineup between the subcompact Kona and the midsize Santa Fe, and it shares a platform and some components with the Kia Sportage, a similar model from Hyundai's sister brand. The automaker also offers two electrified versions, the Tucson Hybrid and the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid, which are reviewed separately.

In recent years, Hyundai has offered the Tucson in a range of trims, including the base SE, the mid-tier Value, SEL, and SEL Plus, the performance-themed Sport and N Line, the rugged-looking XRT, and the upscale Limited and Ultimate.

The Tucson has seen four generations since its debut, with the most recent launching in 2022. The newest version brings significant changes, including a more modern look, a more powerful engine, and a more refined cabin with enhanced technology. Prior to that, the third-gen Tucson enjoyed a model refresh in 2019, which introduced a host of new standard equipment, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and a suite of driving aids that includes automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control also debuted that year on the range-topping Ultimate trim.

Under the hood, the fourth-gen Tucson (2022-present) employs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Earlier versions offer a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 164 hp on lower trims (such as the SE, SEL, and SEL Plus), while higher trims (such as the Sport, Limited, and Ultimate) utilize either a 181-hp 2.4-liter with a six-speed automatic or a 175-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional on all versions.
