Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

As one of the few hybrid sport-utes built by Hyundai, the Santa Fe Hybrid represents the initial wave of the Korean automaker’s push to offer more vehicles that are both environmentally conscious and cost-friendly. Boasting Hyundai’s renowned five-year/60,000-mile warranty, the Santa Fe Hybrid has earned praise from owners for its generous list of standard safety features and plush ride. Conversely, those who have spent time with the Santa Fe Hybrid have chafed at its cumbersome infotainment interface and its somewhat disappointing fuel economy for the segment.

Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Model Lineup

The Santa Fe Hybrid is a hybrid variant of Hyundai’s midsize crossover SUV, the Santa Fe. The five-seater is the largest hybrid SUV in Hyundai’s lineup, measuring about six inches longer than the compact Tucson Hybrid. A plug-in hybrid variant called the Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid is also available (and reviewed separately).

Hyundai offers the Santa Fe Hybrid in three trims: the base-level Blue, the mid-range SEL Premium, and the top-of-the-line Limited. Regardless of trim level, it comes well-equipped. Standard features include heated front seats, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Some notable safety features and driving aids are also standard, including forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning, and adaptive cruise control. Available upgrades include leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a surround-view camera, and a panoramic moonroof.

Propelling the Santa Fe Hybrid is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. The hybrid powertrain’s combined 226 horsepower routes to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and returns an EPA-estimated 34 mpg in mixed driving.
