Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid

The Ioniq Hybrid makes an ideal daily driver, thanks to its fuel-sipping powertrain, which earns an EPA-estimated 58 mpg in mixed driving, and its solid reputation for reliability. Furthermore, owners of the Ioniq Hybrid applaud the vehicle for its ample list of standard and available features and low running costs. On the downside, some lament the hybrid liftback’s tight rear-seat accommodations, limited interior storage, and lackluster power under the hood.

Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Model Lineup

The Ioniq Hybrid is a hybrid variant of Hyundai’s compact four-door hatchback, the Ioniq. The five-seater is the smallest hybrid in the Korean automaker’s lineup, measuring about eight inches shorter than its compact sibling, the Elantra Hybrid. The Ioniq Hybrid shares a platform and some components with both the Elantra Hybrid and the Kia Niro, which is built by Hyundai’s sister company.

Hyundai offers the Ioniq Hybrid in a variety of trims, including the base-level Blue, the mid-tier SE, the tech-forward SEL (introduced for 2020), and the range-topping Limited. Its standard infotainment touchscreen was upgraded from 7.0 to 8.0 inches in 2020 and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Forward collision mitigation and lane-departure warning also became standard in 2020 (and were previously optional). Other notable options include leather upholstery, heated front seats, wireless device charging, parking sensors, blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control, a sunroof, and a 10.3-inch touchscreen.

Under the hood, the Ioniq Hybrid employs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine combined with a lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor. The powertrain’s combined 139 horsepower is routed to the front wheels (only) via a six-speed automatic transmission and returns as much as 58 mpg (combined), according to the EPA.

The Ioniq rides like a larger luxury car. The mileage is wonderful and the reason I purchased the car. The mobile app has been a game changer. The ability to lock, unlock and start is yet another reason I am a repeat buyer.
