Hyundai Genesis

The Hyundai Genesis, introduced in 2009, marked a significant milestone for the South Korean automaker as its first foray into the luxury segment. The model has since earned a reputation for providing a premium experience at a more affordable price than its European and Japanese rivals. Owners also appreciate the Genesis for its comfortable ride, generous list of standard features, and attractive styling. However, critics point out that its handling isn't as engaging as some competitors, such as the BMW 5 Series. Nevertheless, on the used car market, the Genesis continues to deliver excellent value for money, making it an attractive choice for those seeking a luxury sedan without the high price tag of its rivals.

Hyundai Genesis Model Lineup

The Hyundai Genesis is a midsize luxury sedan that seats up to five passengers. It was produced between 2009 and 2016, before being rebranded as the Genesis G80 under Hyundai's new luxury division. The automaker also offered a sports coupe with the Genesis nameplate, and it is reviewed separately. The sedan’s most recent and final generation debuted in 2015, featuring a more refined design, upgraded features, and an optional all-wheel-drive system.

The Genesis comes in a few different trims, ranging from the base 3.8 to the top-tier 5.0. The most common is the 3.8 trim, which is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine that received a bump in output from 290 to 311 horsepower starting in 2015. The 4.6 trim features a 4.6-liter V8 with 375 hp (or 386 with premium fuel). It was replaced in 2012 by the 5.0, which boasts a larger 5.0-liter V8 with about 420 hp. An R-Spec version was also available for the 5.0, adding performance-oriented upgrades such as a sport-tuned suspension and larger brakes. Most versions utilize an eight-speed automatic transmission, though early models (pre-2012) employ a six-speed unit. Power routes to the rear wheels with the exception of 3.8 models equipped with optional all-wheel drive, which was first offered in 2015.

The base 3.8 trim comes well-equipped with features, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a touchscreen infotainment system, while the higher trims build upon these by adding amenities such as ventilated front seats, premium audio systems, and advanced safety features.

2014 Hyundai Genesis 2.0T Coupe

We loved our other Hyundai the only reason we bought a new one was for more options. We didn't buy one sooner because you stop painting lime rock green.
