Hyundai Elantra N

Hyundai sent the practical four-door Elantra to its N performance division, and the result is the Elantra N, a remarkably capable sports sedan with a relatively affordable price. With a nearly 300-horsepower turbo four-cylinder under the hood, a six-speed manual gearbox (or optional dual-clutch automatic), and upgraded brakes and suspension, the Elantra N has the goods to back up its bold styling. And though it may not be quite as refined as some of its rivals (hint: VW GTI), the N also benefits from the Elantra’s spacious and feature-rich cabin. Plus few in this class can compete with its appetite for fun.

Hyundai Elantra N Model Lineup

The Elantra N is a high-performance version of Hyundai’s compact sedan, the Elantra. With room for up to five passengers, it’s the largest model from the South Korean automaker’s N performance division, measuring about a foot longer than the Veloster N hatchback (with which it shares some components).

The Elantra N gets a host of performance upgrades over the standard sedan as well as sporty styling accents inside and out. Most notable is the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood. It boasts 276 horsepower (up to 286 hp in short bursts) and is mated either to a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Power goes to the front wheels (only). Other go-fast bits include bigger brakes, an adaptive sport suspension, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and a performance exhaust.

As the range-topping version, the Elantra N comes in a single, fully loaded trim. It includes keyless entry and ignition, heated front sport seats, dual-zone climate control, and a 10.3-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration as well as a wireless smartphone charger. An active safety suite featuring blind-spot warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control is also included, as are rear parking sensors and a digital instrument panel. In fact, the only options buyers have to choose from are exterior colors and the available automatic gearbox.
