Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

In 2021, Hyundai added an available hybrid powertrain to its Elantra line of compact sedans. Like the regular Elantra, the hybrid version combines distinctive exterior styling with a roomy and feature-packed interior – plus, it earns a 50 mpg (combined) rating from the EPA. Owners of the Elantra Hybrid rate it highly for its affordable running costs and generous allotment of advanced safety tech, including standard blind-spot warning and lane-keeping assist. On the downside, some find its cabin materials lacking in quality and its rear-seat comfort a bit disappointing.

Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Model Lineup

The Elantra Hybrid is a hybrid-powered version of Hyundai’s popular compact sedan, the Elantra. It’s based on the seventh-generation Elantra, which was fully redesigned for the 2021 model year. The five-seater is the smaller of two hybrid sedans offered by the Korean automaker, measuring some nine inches shorter than the larger model, the midsize Sonata Hybrid.

Hyundai offers the Elantra Hybrid in two trims: the entry-level Blue and the well-equipped Limited. Standard features on the Blue include keyless entry and ignition, cloth upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Also included is a suite of active safety tech with features such as forward collision mitigation, blind-spot warning, and lane-keeping assist. Stepping up to the upscale Limited trim adds LED headlights, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a wireless device charger, and a 10.3-inch center touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Motivating the Elantra Hybrid is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a small battery pack. Together, they produce 139 horsepower, which is routed to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The EPA rates the Elantra Hybrid for between 50 and 54 mpg in mixed driving.
