Honda Odyssey

Since its 1990s debut, the Honda Odyssey has been a favorite among families seeking a reliable and versatile minivan that blends practicality with a touch of style. Owners praise its spacious interior, Magic Slide second-row seats, and innovative CabinWatch and CabinTalk systems, which help front-seat passengers keep in touch with those in the back. On the downside, some express disappointment with the Odyssey’s lack of an all-wheel-drive option. Additionally, a few report occasional infotainment system glitches. But overall, the Odyssey remains a solid choice for those in need of a feature-packed minivan with a strong reputation for reliability and owner satisfaction.

Honda Odyssey Model Lineup

The Odyssey is a minivan with seating for up to eight passengers. It’s the only minivan in Honda's lineup, and it shares a platform and some components with the Pilot, a midsize crossover SUV. The most recent (fifth) generation of the Odyssey debuted in 2018 with an updated design, improved handling, a more refined cabin, and new technology features.

The Odyssey comes in several trim levels, including LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. The base LX offers essential equipment, while the EX adds power-sliding doors, an upgraded infotainment system, tri-zone climate control, and since 2018, the Honda Sensing suite of active safety features. The EX-L introduces leather upholstery, a power liftgate, and a sunroof. The Touring gains a rear entertainment system, integrated navigation, and parking sensors, and since 2018, Honda’s CabinWatch and CabinTalk systems, and a hands-free liftgate. The top-of-the-line Elite further includes ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless phone charging, with 2018 models also featuring rain-sensing wipers and a premium audio system.

From 2011 to 2017, the fourth-generation Odyssey featured a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 248 horsepower and initially paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission, which was replaced by a 6-speed automatic in 2014. The fifth-generation Odyssey, introduced in 2018, updated the 3.5-liter V6 to deliver 280 hp and replaced the 6-speed with a new 10-speed automatic, offering improved performance and efficiency. All versions are front-wheel drive (only).

Notable tech and safety features on the Odyssey include an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, which became standard in 2018. The Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety features, which bundles adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, and lane-keeping assist (among other features), was first offered in 2014 and became standard on all trims in 2018.

For used car buyers seeking a Honda Odyssey, we recommend 2018 and later years, as these vehicles come with standard advanced safety features and the latest technology updates. The EX trim offers a good balance of features and value. For additional luxury and convenience items, the Touring and Elite trims are worthy upgrades.

Rattle from license plate holder annoying. Does not hold the interstate in some sections.
