FIAT 500L

In 2012, Fiat returned to the U.S. market with its charming and diminutive hatchback, the 500. Two years later, the Italian automaker added the 500L to the lineup. As the "L" in its name suggests, the 500L is a larger version that shares the 500’s retro styling but offers far more room inside. Owners of the 500L give it high marks for its distinctive look, great outward visibility, and easy around-town maneuverability. On the downside, some find its four-cylinder engine lacking in both power and refinement. Additionally, driving aids such as blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are not offered on the 500L.

FIAT 500L Model Lineup

Produced from 2014 through 2020, the 500L is a compact wagon with room for up to five passengers. It’s the only wagon in Fiat’s lineup and shares a platform and some components with the Italian automaker’s compact crossover SUV, the 500X.

Under the hood, the 500L features a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Its 160 horsepower is routed to the front wheels (only) via either a standard six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission. In 2017, Fiat discontinued the manual gearbox, making the automatic standard equipment for the 500L’s final four model years. No hybrid or electric versions were offered.

Fiat built the 500L in a wide range of trims, including the entry-level Pop, the slightly upgraded Easy (discontinued in 2017), the outdoorsy Trekking, and the top-of-the-line Lounge. Standard equipment includes keyless entry, power windows and door locks, air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, and Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity. The standard infotainment touchscreen was upgraded from 5.0 to 7.0 inches in 2018 and also gained Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration that year. Notable options include rear parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated front seats, navigation, and a premium Beats Audio sound system – most of which are standard on the range-topping Lounge trim. A rearview camera joined the list of standard features in 2018; however, most other active safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision mitigation, were never made available on the 500L.

VERY disappointed in the SiriusXM radio reception. It CONSTANTLY goes out. I've been told it's a common problem and needs to be addressed ASAP. Once my trial is over, I won't be happy paying for a radio that doesn't work.

Since purchasing my Fiat 500L I have had many compliments by many people on the car. Wherever I go, people tell me they like my car, or its cute, or ask how I like it. So far I am the only owner of this model in my town, so it gets a lot of attention. I truly bought it because I wanted something sporty and economical to visit my kids and my Fiat is that and more! I have really enjoyed driving it and will enjoy it for many years to come, well done Fiat/Chrysler and keep up the excellent work!!

I am just overall happy with my "baby". I can say that my Fiat is the first car I have truly been happy about. I talk about my car to everyone hoping they will buy one too. :)

I am very happy with my new Fiat 500L except for one item under the comfort category. The arm rest on the door is not the same height as the arm rest between the seats. This gets very uncomfortable on longer trips leaning from one side to the other.

Hard to read speedometer. No memory seat functions make it hard to switch drivers. Hard to load golf clubs.

Love the windows all around the new car. My old fiat had blind spots and was hard to back out of a parking space.

I really do love the car. It has been great from the beginning and I have enjoyed it more and more. Took a trip this past weekend to central Oregon with three friends and the 500 L was perfect. Comfortable, quiet, handled great even in the mountains. I LOVE my new 500 L The styling inside and out. The more I drive it the more I like it.

2014 Fiat 500L Lounge Hatchback

We are very pleased with our new Fiat 500L. We are finally at a point in our life that we could buy a car for us, that would be functional but fun to drive.
