FIAT 124 Spider

A joint venture between Mazda and Fiat, the 124 Spider borrows much of its underpinnings from the MX-5 Miata but adds its own distinctively Italian flair. While its nameplate and styling cues nod to the original 1960s version, the latest iteration takes the formula into the modern era. Its sharp design and agile handling earn high marks from 124 Spider owners. On the downside, its restricted interior and lack of advanced safety equipment leave some owners wanting more.

FIAT 124 Spider Model Lineup

The 124 Spider is a small two-seat convertible sports car. Before exiting the North American market following the 2020 model year, it was the smallest vehicle in Fiat’s lineup. It shares a platform and some components with the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

Fiat built the 124 Spider primarily in three trims: the entry-level Classica, the mid-tier Lusso, and the performance-oriented Abarth. Given its propensity for performance, the 124 Spider doesn’t aim to spoil its passengers with tons of attractive features. A rearview camera became standard equipment for 2019, but most other comfort and convenience features, including heated seats, leather upholstery, and a 7.0-inch center touchscreen, are optional or limited to higher trims. Blind-spot warning and rear parking sensors are add-ons, as well, and some popular tech features, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and adaptive cruise control, were never offered.

Under the hood, the 124 Spider utilizes a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that sends power to the rear wheels. On the Classica and Lusso trims, it offers 160 horsepower, but output climbs to 164 ponies on the top-level Abarth trim, thanks to a less restrictive exhaust. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a six-speed automatic is optional. No hybrid or electric options are available.

This vehicle is based on proven technology and proven performance. Styling appealed to me because it was more retro. The base vehicle, manufacture has good reputation with this type vehicle

Very happy with all aspects of the car with the exception Nav system. I previously owned a Miata mx-5 and much prefer this vehicle. Only disappointment is lack of android auto integration.
