Dodge Journey

The Dodge Journey debuted in 2009 and hasn’t changed a whole lot since then. Though it offers relatively inexpensive point-to-point transportation, the aging midsize family hauler is far from the top of its class in most respects. Fresher rivals, such as the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe, offer significantly better performance, fuel economy, and features.

Dodge Journey Model Lineup

The Journey is a midsize crossover SUV with room for up to seven passengers when equipped with the optional third row. Until being discontinued in 2021, it was the smaller of two sport-utes offered by Dodge, measuring about nine inches shorter than its larger sibling, the three-row Durango.

Dodge sold the Journey in a wide variety of trims, including the entry-level SE and SXT, the mid-tier Crossroad and Crossroad Plus, and the range-topping R/T and GT. Stepping up to the Crossroad gets you niceties such as leather upholstery and an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity. Note that full smartphone integration (including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) is not available, nor are advanced safety features such as blind-spot warning or adaptive cruise control.

Motivating the Journey is either a four-cylinder or a six-cylinder gasoline engine. The standard 2.4-liter four produces about 170 horsepower and powers the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Selecting the optional V6 instead ups the ante considerably with around 280 hp. It’s also connected to a more advanced six-speed automatic gearbox and can be equipped with all-wheel drive.

This car is used daily by my wife for a 16-mile round trip commute. I use it occasionally and on weekends and vacations. Her experiences mirror mine, however, all answers given reflect my own opinions. As a person who has 5 Chrysler products in the house ranging from a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda to this new Dodge Journey, I am very happy that Chrysler Corp has kept their quality control as excellent as it is.

Better visibility and less road noise please. Love the Stow & Go seating, the reason I only looked at Dodge vehicles when I needed to replace my van.

Rear window needs down vent to clear dust. A slotted vent in the top moldings holding the antenna forcing air downward would help clear rear window of rain or dust. A vehicle that is a joy to drive.
