Chevrolet Trax

Produced from 2015 through 2022, the Trax is a reasonably well-equipped small crossover with an affordable price tag. In addition, Chevrolet’s cute-ute is peppy and lithe behind the wheel, endearing itself to owners as a fun and practical daily driver. Complaints about the Trax center on its lack of rear-seat comfort and unrefined powertrain. For the price, though, the Trax isn't making any promises it can’t keep.

Chevrolet Trax Model Lineup

The Trax is a subcompact crossover SUV with room for up to five passengers. Prior to being discontinued (following the 2022 model year), it was the smallest SUV in Chevrolet’s lineup, measuring about six inches shorter than the Trailblazer, a fellow subcompact crossover. The Trax shares a platform and some components with the Buick Encore, which is built by Chevy’s sister company within General Motors.

Chevrolet sold the Trax in three trims for the better part of its production run. The entry-level LS and mid-tier LT long were longstanding Trax trims, while the range-topping LTZ was available from 2015 to 2016 before being renamed the Premier in 2017. The Premier trim was then discontinued following the 2020 model year. The Trax is modestly equipped across all levels. A 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, rearview camera, and a WiFi hotspot have long been standard equipment, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto joined as standard features in 2017. Some notable options include rear parking sensors, blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, heated front seats, and a sunroof.

Under the hood, the Trax employs a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Initially rated at 138 horsepower, the engine received a bump in power to 155 ponies for the 2022 model year. Front-wheel drive is standard on the Trax, while all-wheel drive is optional. No hybrid or electric versions were made.

My Trax is just what I wanted. I have comfort and dependability. My Mom and I drove to Tennessee and it was a very pleasurable experience. My daily drive to and from work is great. Knowing that I have the AWD when we have bad roads is a comfort.

I absolutely love the Trax. The only problem is I am unable to get the MyLink movie feature to work. I have registered the product and downloaded the file but nothing seems to work.

My new trax does not have a rear windshield washer to it. HUGE drawback. I don't think I would of bought it if I would of known that.

I am only 4'11" so it is hard to sit high enough without being too close to the steering wheel. So far, I am very impressed with the style and performance of my new car. The one item I have a problem with any car is the driver's seat adjustments in relation to my size since I am 5' tall. I worry about the airbag being too close and I need to sit on a cushion even with the seat adjustments so that I am not too close.
