Chevrolet SS

At first glance, the SS looks like just another Chevrolet sedan. But slip behind the wheel, and you quickly realize it’s something else entirely. That’s because the big four-door boasts a massive 415-horsepower V8 engine, borrowed from the Corvette. Along with Brembo brakes, an adaptive suspension, and an available six-speed manual gearbox, it turns the SS into a true sports sedan with capabilities that rival icons such as the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-AMG E63. Owners love the SS for its prodigious power as well as its surprisingly good handling. On the downside, interior quality doesn’t quite live up to its German competitors, and fuel economy from the large V8 is marginal at best.

Chevrolet SS Model Lineup

The Chevrolet SS (short for "Super Sport") is a full-size performance sedan with room for up to five people. Chevy discontinued the model in 2018, but prior to then, it slotted between the full-size Impala and the midsize Malibu in their lineup of sedans. The SS shares a platform and many components with the Holden Commodore, built by Chevrolet’s sister company in Australia.

Chevrolet sold the SS in a single, well-equipped trim. Standard features include keyless entry and ignition, remote start, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8.0-inch infotainment display with Bluetooth audio, navigation, and a rearview camera. An active safety suite with blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, and forward collision warning is also standard. However, some desirable tech features, including adaptive cruise control and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, were never offered.

Under the hood, the SS features a 6.2-liter V8 engine making 415 horsepower. It’s mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels (only). A six-speed manual gearbox was a no-cost option starting in 2015. No hybrid or electric variants were built.

2014 Chevrolet SS

Car is a hoot to drive. Cops ignore it because they think it is an Impala or a Malibu. The car is a real sleeper. Chevrolet is not advertising this car as a performance car. I haven't seen it in any TV campaigns. The only people wise to its potential are ''gas-heads''. It was the same with the Pontiac GTO. Another car that was a real fun drive.
