Chevrolet Colorado

The Chevrolet Colorado offers the ruggedness of a traditional body-on-frame pickup in a handy midsize package. When equipped with available V6 or turbodiesel power, the Chevy boasts impressive towing and hauling capabilities, and owners love it for its sharp styling, easy maneuverability, and comfortable ride. On the downside, the Colorado’s base 2.5-liter four-cylinder lacks oomph as well as refinement, and the rear seats feel cramped compared to those in its full-size sibling, the Silverado. Additionally, some desirable safety tech, such as blind-spot warning, isn’t offered.

Chevrolet Colorado Model Lineup

The Colorado is a midsize pickup truck that comes in two cab styles and bed lengths. The Extended Cab with a 6.2-foot bed has room for up to four people, and the Crew Cab with a 5.2-foot bed seats up to five. It’s the smallest pickup in Chevy’s lineup, measuring about two feet shorter than the full-size Silverado 1500. Properly equipped, the Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds and haul up to 1,560 pounds of payload. It shares a platform and some components with the GMC Canyon, built by Chevy’s sister company.

Chevrolet offers the Colorado in a range of trims. At the lower end are the base and Work Truck (WT) versions, which come with a minimum of standard features. The mid-level LT trim comes with more goodies, including cruise control, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a WiFi hotspot. At the higher end are the off-road-themed Z71 and ZR2 trims, which include beefier suspension components, all-terrain tires, and a locking rear differential, among other items. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration first became available in 2016 and was made standard in 2018. Some active safety features, including forward collision warning and lane-departure warning, are available on the Colorado’s higher trims; however, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot warning have yet to be offered.

The Colorado utilizes one of three different engines. Standard is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 200 horsepower. Higher trims offer a 3.6-liter V6 with just over 300 ponies and (starting in 2016) an optional turbodiesel four-cylinder that generates 181 hp and a stout 369 lb-ft of torque. Most employ an automatic transmission, but a manual gearbox was available with the base four-cylinder through 2019. Buyers also have a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive. No electric or hybrid variants have been produced to date.

I got a great truck at a great price and it wasn't crammed down my throat. Overall great buying experience.

Wish it had easier to reach load hooks that came with the truck not aftermarket. With the bed liner (not spray on) the load hooks are hard to reach. Push button start would be nice.

This truck is poorly built, expected much more from Chevrolet. The transmission is so bad, I hate driving this truck. Would take my Ram 1500 back in a heartbeat. Based on this purchase Chevy will never sell me another vehicle again. I have only 1200 miles on it and already feel like I have been ripped off, wasted money. Anyone who thinks this truck is good does not know what a good truck is. So disappointed...

Love my new truck! Would like to see the Z71 with a sunroof and the tires could be a little nicer-always look dirty and not as nice as the rest of the truck.
