Cadillac XTS

The XTS is a big, old-school sedan from America’s foremost luxury automaker. Though discontinued in 2020, this full-size Caddy remains a compelling choice for those in the market for a roomy four-door that prioritizes comfort over performance. Owners of the XTS give it high marks for its distinctive styling, posh cabin, and cushy seats with oodles of rear legroom. On the downside, the standard V6 engine offers only lackluster acceleration and fuel economy. Also, most advanced safety features are limited to the upper trim levels.

Cadillac XTS Model Lineup

The XTS is a full-size luxury sedan with room for up to five passengers. In Cadillac’s lineup of sedans, it slots between the midsize CTS (known as the CT5 after 2019) and the full-size CT6. The XTS shares a platform and some components with the Chevrolet Impala and the Buick LaCrosse, which are built by Cadillac’s sister companies. The XTS was discontinued after the 2019 model year.

Cadillac built the XTS in four main trims: the entry-level base, the mid-tier Luxury, the well-equipped Premium, and the top-of-the-line Platinum. All come packed with high-end features, including rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, and an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen. Moving up the trim hierarchy adds other niceties such as heated and ventilated front seats, navigation, front parking sensors, and an adaptive suspension (which was standard on all trims until 2018). It also unlocks an array of available safety tech, including blind-spot warning, forward collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, a surround-view camera, and adaptive cruise control. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration became standard in 2016, as did a wireless device charger.

Under the hood, the XTS utilizes a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine making 304 horsepower. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the front wheels unless the model is equipped with available all-wheel drive. In 2014, Cadillac added an optional 410-hp turbocharged version of the engine; models equipped with the boosted V6 are dubbed Vsport and come standard with all-wheel drive. No hybrid or electric versions of the XTS were made.

2014 Cadillac XTS FWD

I have owned Cadillacs for the last 25 years. I have always loved the quiet, smooth luxurious rides since I take a lot of road trips to visit family out of state. I have never been disappointed in the Cadillac until this most recent purchase. Whatever they did to the design of the Cadillac in my opinion they ruined it. As my son stated "It is just a car not a Cadillac". The luxurious ride is gone. I feel every bump and depression in the road, it is noisy (wind noises, tire noises). And this is why I always continued to purchase Cadillacs. I don't need all the new technology. A basic car was fine with me but the quality of the ride and the quietness was very important to me and it is gone. So I must say that I am sad because if you don't get it in a Cadillac where else can you go. My decision was quick to purchase because I never thought the quality of the ride would be an issue. After my first road trip to NC I found out otherwise. Shame on me for being so trusting. But Cadillac quality has definitely been compromised.

2014 Cadillac XTS FWD

As in most Cadillacs I have owned the interior lights are not bright enough also we would have liked to have hot and cold cup holders this option was not available. The CD player may as well have been placed in the trunk. The one CD player is also inadequate. Our 2012 Buick held 6 CDs. On the plus side the sound system is great. The cold and warm leather seats and steering wheel we really love that. Too many great options to mention. Bottom line we are overjoyed with our XTS.
