Cadillac XT5

The XT5 is Cadillac’s entry into the highly competitive premium compact SUV segment. With sharp styling and a plush cabin, it offers the high-end look and feel that buyers have come to expect from the American luxury automaker. And like most Cadillacs, the XT5 puts an emphasis on comfort, which it delivers with a smooth ride and supportive front seats. It also beats many in its class for cargo space. On the downside, some owners report disappointment with the XT5’s fuel economy, especially from the available V6, as well as its modest towing capacity, which maxes out at just 3,500 pounds.

Cadillac XT5 Model Lineup

The XT5 is a premium compact crossover SUV with room for five. In Cadillac’s sport-ute lineup, it slots between the subcompact XT4 and the three-row XT6. The XT5 shares a platform and some components with the Chevrolet Blazer, sold by Cadillac’s sister company. It replaced the SRX, which was sold from 2004-2016.

Cadillac offers the XT5 in a few different trims, including the entry-level base and Luxury models, the well-equipped Premium Luxury, the performance-themed Sport, and the fully loaded Platinum (which became a package rather than a trim starting in 2020). All versions come with a generous allotment of standard features, including a rearview camera, a power liftgate, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. In terms of safety tech, Cadillac made forward collision mitigation and lane-departure warning standard equipment in 2020 (previously optional). More advanced features, including adaptive cruise control and blind-spot warning, are also available as upgrades; however, Super Cruise, the automaker’s semi-autonomous driving system, has not yet been offered on the XT5.

Under the hood, the XT5 utilizes one of two available engines. All versions initially employed a 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V6, but in 2020 a new 237-hp turbocharged four-cylinder became the standard mill, with the V6 continuing as an option on the Premium Luxury trim and gratis on the Sport. An eight- or nine-speed automatic transmission (depending on the model year) takes care of the shifting duties. It routes power to the front wheels unless the car is equipped with all-wheel drive, which is optional on all but the base model and standard on the Sport. No hybrid or electric variants have yet been released.

It's a good vehicle but could be better. The ride can be tougher than it should be. The interior seams to be just a step or two below the Mercedes that I owned. Lots of bells and whistles that are nice. It just seems like if your going to build a luxury car that the finishes and the ride should be better. I like the vehicle and feel like the exterior design outpaces the interior finishes and the ride.Specifics...the shifter is not intuitive. The carpet and leather seem to be [Name] grade. Every now and the my phone doesn't hook up to apple play. The seat heater doesn't get warm enough. To many options for the display and hard to remember how to get there. The lights that turn on when making a turn do not cast a bright enough or angled enough light.

Very comfortable, good room in front & rear seats with storage. The vehicle has good power, and drives very well in all road conditions. The technology is appropriate and easy to use.

This is my third Cadillac SUV and I am very satisfied with the quality of materials used within the interior, the ride and fuel economy. These are the important points for me that I would emphasize when asked about my experience with this vehicle.

I have the SUV and love it because it drives like I am in a car. It,s not to big or too little.
