Acura ILX

Small and economical, the Acura ILX is a luxury sedan that doesn’t necessarily feel like one. That can be a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective. On the one hand, the ILX possesses enough style and comfort to make it worthy of Acura’s premium badge, despite its relatively affordable price tag. On the other, it can feel like an overpriced Honda Civic with some outdated interior features and generally underwhelming performance. Competitors from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz may do more to impress, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a luxury sedan that is more attainable than the ILX.

Acura ILX Model Lineup

The ILX is a subcompact luxury sedan with room for five. It is the smallest model in Acura’s sedan lineup, measuring roughly a foot shorter than the larger TLX. Based on the ninth-generation Honda Civic, the ILX was discontinued after the 2022 model year and replaced by the all-new Acura Integra.

Acura has sold the ILX in a number of trims over the years. Since 2016, the ILX has been offered in a single trim with the option to add features via packages, including the comfort-oriented Premium package and the gadget-friendly Technology package. Another popular option, the A-Spec package, offers sportier looks and can be combined with other packages. Prior to 2016, the ILX trims were named after the included engine type (2.0, 2.4, or Hybrid) plus any included packages.

All ILX models since 2016 utilize a 201-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that sends power to the front wheels (only) via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Earlier models offer the choice of a standard 150-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with a five-speed automatic transmission or an optional 201-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder paired with a six-speed manual. For 2013 and 2014, Acura also offered a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder coupled with an electric motor to produce 111 hp (total) and achieve an EPA-rated 38 mpg in mixed driving.

When it comes to tech and safety features, the ILX has delivered over the years. A rearview camera has long been standard on the ILX, and in 2019 the ILX gained a host of additional standard tech, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and lane-keeping assist (all previously optional). Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration first appeared as an option that same year. Additionally, an optional blind-spot warning system has been offered since 2016.

I hate the way the gas tank sounds because you can hear the gas moving backward and forward, simply hate it!!!

I was a bit surprised at the fitness of the rear door vs the rear fender. QC seems to be lacking. Also the fitness or the gap from the hood to the front fascia is off. Things like this you don't want to see a good branded company like Acura.

The black interior scuffs very easily. The ergonomics are not good for the driver, especially shorter people - the armrests are horrible. Sound system does not go loud enough. Reviews are correct, it is a dog to get up and go or pass. Overall enjoy the car, but clearly room for improvement.

I am greatly disappointed with the current vehicle I own. for a 2015 Acura ILX with a Tech package this vehicle was somewhat inferior in technology compared to my 2012 TSX. i.e., No memory seats, signal mirrors, power passenger seat, reverse movement side mirrors, individual Tire sensors, etc... I can go on and on...

Love the car but wish I had got tech package. Should have looked into that package. I've had to use a navigation system three times, it would have been nice to have on car. I love my new car. It might not be the TL I wanted but it still drives like one. Handles really well on winding roads. Not as luxurious as the TL but nice. I do miss not having the navigation system since I get lost easily. I should have put the tech system in my car - that was the only mistake I made but I do like the car. Great miles to the gallon especially since we live in the country.

My only hesitation with the ILX is the underwhelming engine choice in the 2015. I hope in the latest 2016 model year it is upgraded. The ILX is a great value however I think with more torque and horsepower this car would be PERFECT!
