I was very sure about what I wanted, so it took a few weeks of checking Carvana's site until I found a vehicle that met my exact requirements. I finally located what I wanted. A Gunmetal Grey 2012 Ford F150 4x4 with a V8, low mileage (25K miles) and a towing package. Other requirements were a leather interior, sat nav, backup camera, remote start, sunroof, heated and cooled seats, etc. In other words, a fully loaded truck with every gadget available from the factory. This vehicle had it all and for a bit less than blue book value.
Everything started out perfectly. We filled out all the paperwork online, uploaded requested documents, were approved, etc.
Completed web transactions on 11/27/2016 around lunch time. Website said that the earliest we could pickup the vehicle was 11/30/2016. We decided to wait until Friday 12/2/2016 and pick it up after work between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.
On 12/2/2016, I got dropped off at work that morning with plans of taking a quick Uber ride to the Carvana location. I get an email at 10:30am telling me that there's been a delay and I need to call them. I do. I'm told that the truck that was transporting my vehicle broke down in Louisiana.
I'm told the soonest we can pick up the vehicle is 12/7/2016. I ask if they can deliver. I'm told that can't happen until 12/13/2016.
I let the customer service rep know that I'm not the least bit happy about the short notice, but I guess we'll work it out. I will need to call them back. I make some phone calls arranging for a way to get home and then contact my wife to see what we want to do. She's got the day off on 12/7 so we decide I'll take the day off so we can just both go there and check the vehicle out.
Fast forward to 12/7. My wife drops me off at the Carvana location and the truck is sitting ready to go in the prep bay. I spent about 10 minutes walking around it and looking it over. I couldn't believe what I was looking at. The scratches and rock chips displayed on the website looked far worse online. In person this vehicle looked very close to showroom floor condition.
I went inside, introduced myself and was taken back out to the truck to go over the final paperwork. No surprises, a few signatures later, two $25 gift cards as a consolation for the aggravation and I'm sitting behind the wheel. I've been driving it daily ever since.
If it weren't for the initial delay/reschedule, I would have called this transaction perfect. As it stands it's nearly perfect, which is close enough for me.
I've now owned the truck for a little over a week so I've had a good chance to really look it over and drive it. I'm no less impressed than I was the moment I first saw it in person. No hidden damage or problem, and people cannot believe it is 4 years old. I looks new, smells new and drives new. I paid a reasonable price and got exactly what I wanted with minimal haslle. Can't ask for much more than that.
