One of the few true minivans available on the market, the Toyota Sienna is a long-standing stalwart in the class and one of the bestselling minivans ever. Toyota has been making Siennas since 1998, and the vehicle has rightly earned a reputation as a reliable family car that has gotten many families to school and on trips safely and comfortably. The Sienna is available in five different trim levels that range from a base L Level to the Limited.

All-Wheel Drive

The Toyota Sienna is the only minivan available that offers all-wheel drive for all of its trims. This makes the Sienna a worthy choice for families who may need to drive in inclement weather at times. The optional all-wheel drive also helps improve the Sienna's handling on city roads and on the highway.

Engine and Transmission Power

Starting in 2017, Toyota upgraded the engine in the Sienna. The Sienna has a 296-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 that offers drivers quick acceleration. The eight-speed automatic transmission is responsive and will usually do what drivers ask of it. You can count on the Sienna for also being fluid when it comes to merging and lane changes.

Safety Features

Safety is where the Sienna really makes its mark as it is loaded with standard safety features. Automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control come standard, and there is also a lane-departure warning and a lane-keeping assist. The Sienna received a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Infotainment System

The Sienna definitely has options, but its rivals have more current entertainment systems while the Sienna seems a little dated and unimaginative in this area. The system is user-friendly, but it lacks Android Auto while nearly every other vehicle has this option; Toyota only added Apple CarPlay in the Sienna's 2019 model year. The system also has a smaller touch screen than many of its rivals overall, the Sienna could stand to have a few more user-pleasing gadgets.

Second-Row Seats

Many minivans offer some type of stow-and-go system where the second-row seats can be folded, but the Sienna lacks that system. These seats are difficult to maneuver and remove from the car if you need more room. There is plenty of room in the second row, and the seats are certainly comfortable, but the system is not flexible and conducive to using the space as anything but a seating area.

While the Sienna comes loaded with many features, it is at the upper end of the price range for minivans. This is in part because the Sienna is a very popular and in-demand car. Still, the price is listed above its Honda and Chrysler competitors.
